Watching Den of Thieves, you can't help but compare it to Michael Mann's Heat. Two crews on opposite sides of the law get into a cat and mouse, and both films take place in Los Angeles.
But unlike Heat, Den of Thieves has the "traditional" heist film plot twist at the end, and in Den of Thieves, the score is not just from any bank; the target is the Federal Reserve Bank.
Den of Thieves doesn't quite live up to Heat, which is considered a crime thriller masterpiece, but it's an excellent heist film nevertheless, and I look forward to seeing the upcoming sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, in which Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton) reprise their roles.
