In Blue Thunder with Roy Scheider, there's a tidbit of dialogue about why the attack helicopter was developed. The film's story takes place not long before the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, and they want to avoid another terrorist incident like what happened in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is always an extremely touchy subject. Unlike Steven Spielberg's Munich, September 5 is less about politics in the Middle East and focuses on what happened behind the scenes in ABC Sports' coverage of the 1972 Olympic Games.
Like other films about journalism, September 5 is a very insightful and fascinating docudrama about a historical event, and I particularly appreciate how the film captured the technical aspects of live TV broadcast production. People and films get snubbed all the time in awards shows, and in my humble opinion, September 5 should have been nominated for Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Picture.
